RESHORING AMERICA and the ILLINOIS RESHORING INITIATIVE
The Reshoring Initiative documents for large manufacturers the benefits of sourcing in the United States.Archstone Consulting’s 2009 survey showed that 60% of manufacturers use “rudimentary total cost models” and ignore 20% of the cost of offshoring. The Initiative will provide its TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) Estimator software free to webinar participants to help customers compare the true TCO of local vs. offshore sources and to help job shops sell the benefits of local sourcing to their customers.
To help the companies make better sourcing decisions the Reshoring Initiative www.reshorenow.org provides: TCO software, an online Library of 98 articles about successful reshorings so companies can see how others in their industry have profited by reshoring, linked NTMA/PMA Purchasing Fairs to help them find competitive U.S. sources and publicity to drive the reshoring trend.Participate in the webinar to make better sourcing decisions or better sales calls, or both.

Reshoring Initiative and Illinois Reshoring Initiative Q.What is reshoring? A.The opposite of offshoring.Bringing back manufacturing jobs.. Q.How do you plan to bring jobs back? A.By showing the companies that offshore that they will be more profitable by bringing some work back. Q.Why would the companies not already have brought the work back? A.Because 60% of companies underestimate the cost of offshoring, on average by 20% or more. (Source Archstone Consulting, 2009) Q.What does the national Reshoring Initiative provide to help the Illinois Initiative? A1. The TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) Estimator to give to companies to calculate the cost of offshoring. A2.An online Reshoring Library that contains 99 published reshoring articles.Companies can see how others have benefited. A3.Publicity: WSJ, USAToday, CBS, Industry Week, etc. A4.Broad contacts with local and national trade associations. Q. There have been many Conferences to revitalize manufacturing. Why is the Illinois Initiative different? A.Other conferences tend to discuss and stop. The Illinois Initiative is a 6-step program to inform, motivate, train, help, bring customers and suppliers together, follow-up and measure the results and then do even better the next year. Q.What results are you expecting? A.That depends on our ability to attract the large Illinois manufacturers to participate. If they participate, at least dozens of jobs within a year of the Fair, much more as we repeat the program and develop more follow-thru. If we reshored enough to balance Illinois’ share of the U.S. trade deficit: 400,000 jobs. Q.Why will it take so long? A.Offshoring has been building for 50 years.Companies have built their strategies around offshoring, believing ”offshored is cheaper.” Thousands of consultants are paid to help them offshore. Q.Why should we support the Illinois Initiative? A.The trade deficit is a cancer that is destroying our employment, budget deficit and, eventually, defense capability.Reshoring is the most cost effective way to bring jobs back.
